picnic monday 31st april posted by hannah
Today it was warm enough for a picnic so we set up camp for the day at the edge of Elterwater. The footpath has recently been resurfaced to make it accessable for wheelchairs which is fantastic as you used to have to carry the puchchairs over some sections.
sunday afternooon sunday 30th april posted by hannah
It's bluebell time and we've been wandering in the woods this afternoon, we took 85 pictures (it was very beautiful)!
late night saturday 29th april posted by hannah
Daniel and I popped down to Fell Foot this evening for a bar-be-que. It felt terrific to be in the park after all the day's visitors had gone home. Daniel declined all food except strawberries which he consumed in vast numbers. This is the view on the way to Fell Foot from the Gummers How road.
village people friday 28th april posted by hannah
There is a little play house on the recreation ground, perfect for three small friends to sit in. This is Daniel with his friends from the village Elliot (left) and Charlie (right).
the train wednesday 26th april posted by hannah
Today Daniel and I took the train from Kendal to Staveley. On the whole it was a positive experience but I have a lot to learn in order to manage the process successfully! This is what I have learnt so far...
1) It's remarkably easy to get stuck on the train! Only one set of doors opens for getting off at Staveley.
2) Our buggy doesn't fit down the aisle between the seats, even when folded (in order to get to the open door).
3) Access to the platform at Staveley is up a flight of 42 steps! This was problematic because you can't leave a 1-year-old on his own at the bottom to carry the buggy up because of the road and you can't carry him up first and leave him at the top because of the platform!
4) People are very helpful.
the boys are back in town! monday 24th april posted by hannah
Our builders are back in the loft and things are progressing again. Today the floor joists - tomorrow the world.
banoffee sunday 22nd april posted by hannah
Today has been gloomy and grey but we had banoffee pie for tea which cheered us all up no end!
so long, old friend saturday 21st april posted by hannah
It was with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to the Corsa yesterday. Having been a faithful friend for the past 12 years, our move to the relatively urban Staveley with it's buses and trains has meant that it's time to try being a one-car-family. The car was advertised in the local paper yesterday and was gone by lunchtime! The new owners are dairy farmers and they've assured us it will have a happy retirement on the farm in Lancashire.
balls friday 20th april posted by hannah
This is Daniel in the ball pool at the Playbase centre in Kendal today. It was hard to get a decent photo because he kept disappearing beneath the balls, I captured him for this shot on a rare moment of resurfacing for air!
spring morning wednesday 18th april posted by hannah
We're now into a third week of gorgous weather and have even started to water some of our garden because it's so dry! This is almost unheard of, even in August! Today's picture is of Daniel and I looking for ducks on Windermere.
careful now tuesday 17th april posted by jonathan
We've been clearing up some more of the mess left by the previous owner of our house. However, this time it's been quite good fun. Piles of tinder dry cuttings from around the garden were consumed by a hungry fire. It's a shame the garden isn't big enough to really let rip as it would have disappeared in 10 minutes. Bring on the changes to the garden: Garden party here on the 5th & 6th May if you're interested, just bring a spade and gloves!
spinning around monday 16th april posted by hannah
We've had a holiday at home as my parents were here last week. We worked in the house in the mornings, preparing for the next stage of the building work and were tourists in the afternoons. The weather was glorious and Daniel ate scones and cream every day!
going for a climb saturday 14th april posted by jonathan
During the week we got the opportunity to go for a walk with Paul, Charlotte & Alfie (Alfie was born in the same ward, at the same time as Daniel). The boys impressed us all by climbing up a big rock and running down its grassy back, hand in hand before heading up again & again. Click here to for a picture of them on their summit.
digging friday 13th april posted by jonathan
The wonderful weather has meant that we've spent most of the Easter break outside. Daniel has spent many happy hours excavating the flower beds with his digger. It seems that an important part of the process is to get plently of whatever he's digging on him.
messing about on the river wednesday 4th April posted by hannah
It's been really warm today and we've been playing by the river with some friends. Within the first two minutes we'd used our emergency towel and change of clothes - Daniel having waded in up to his waist. You only do that once in April in the Lake District! Having established that the river was too cold for swimming we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon from the security of the bank.
