patches      wednesday 30th april posted by jonathan

There are still a couple of areas of snow on the tops here. It's been a relatively snowy winter especially since the beginning of March. I haven't been able to get out much but a couple of weeks ago Paul & I did pop out after the kids were in bed and do the Helvelyn horseshoe. It was great and felt quite alpine. A very fun evening where I carried a big heavy sack full of emergency gear and Paul carried crampons, ice axe and 2 plastic sledges (which we could only use on the path as there was too much soft snow elsewhere) ......

the art of searching      friday 25th april posted by jonathan

Up until last month I prided myself on the way I use search engines and tend to find what I'm looking for relatively quickly. As time has gone on I think that the “Big boys” (of which I confess I am fairly addicted to Google) have got better at predicting the answers we want to see.

However, I was blown away when Hannah wanted a recipe for a chocolate cake. She searched "Emergency chocolate cake" and found possibly the best chocolate cake recipe ever. Maybe I should try less hard when searching, as her results were lovely. Here's Daniel helping me cook one such emergency chocolate cake this afternoon.

Bethan couldn't sleep last night which we put down to toothache so she was allowed to stay up and watch The Apprentice. She cheered up indecently quickly so I think we were had.

belton      monday 7th april posted by hannah

We've been on holiday with the Whites to Belton Woods in Grantham, it was a lovely to spend the week together. Daniel met a barn owl, Bethan enjoyed her first swim and we all enjoyed a week of lazy mornings, and tea shops. More photos to follow.
