going along for the ride 26th April posted by hannah
We went to Bike Maintanance on Saturday with our clapped-out bikes in tow. The event was designed to get people back on their bikes, and was hosted by the Green Transport Initiative (GTI), which is being piloted in the village. Our bikes were lovingly restored during the day and we were given this tag-along (which someone had donated) for Daniel. It was a superb event and has certainly set us up for cycling.

We planned to bring you 'spawn-cam', Spring Watch style, with pictures of the frogspawn we've been watching, and live webcam action updates! I failed to get a decent picture and now the frogspawn is no more, so here are the tadpoles and I'll endeavor to post a picture of the froglets when they're fully grown.

It's back to work and nursery today but the sun is shining and we still haven't had a drop of rain since before the Easter weekend. We've had to start watering the garden where it's been so dry. Here's hoping for a long hot summer.

Whilst away with the good family White, we visited Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire. This is the birthplace and family home of Sir Isaac Newton. Here is a picture of the house, and an apple tree, reputedly descended from the one under which Newton had his famous apple/gravity moment.

Having spent Easter in the south-east, I think that we are about a fortnight behind in the spring stakes. Our apple trees are just beginning to come into leaf.

We enjoyed a terrific holiday with Paul, Karen, Amy, Rebekah and Hannah. A week together is becoming an annual fixture and one of the most enjoyable weeks of the year.

close encounters16th April posted by hannah
We met some birds of prey on holiday. Jon, Daniel and I all had a close encounter with this beautiful barn owl called Lucky. He was handreared by a falconer having been rescued as a fledgling - hence the name. We also met a harris hawk and a red-tailed buzzard. More photos here.

Daniel hasn't quite mastered the art of kite flying but is rather good at 'running-with-kite.'

Dusting off our bouyancy aids, we took the canoe out today. It was great to be on the water and everyone was content to travel by paddle until Rich turned up with a power boat! The children changed their allegiance faster than Toad and it was 'Poop, poop", all the way home. More photos here.

Tucking into the spoils! James, Daniel and Bethan knew just what to do with their Easter eggs.
