training    31st August posted by jonathan

I spent today working with Bay Rescue and the Casualties Union, and travelling around in a Hagglund (below). At 30 mph on the road it felt quite scary, but going up or down the channels in Morecambe Bay's salt marshes and up to it's windscreen in water (although it eventually floats) was brilliant.

mintfest 30th August posted by jonathan

We went swimming this morning, followed by coffee drinking and watching the street entertainment that was part of "Mint fest" in Kendal today. The weather was warm, and the entertainment good. In fact it felt as though summer might be coming soon.

A shiny rosehip from Barley Bridge.

wash down    26th August posted by hannah

Wifa, Isaac and Daniel doing a spot of washing in the garden. You won't be surprised to hear that this activity progressed in the usual way; they were all soaked within five minutes and spent the rest of the afternoon running around the grass naked.

sausage sizzle    25th August posted by hannah

The Grew family are with us this weekend and we've managed two great walks and a sausage cookout between the showers. This morning the 'clag' returned with reinforcements so we retreated to Lakeland and consoled ourselves with buttered crumpets.

words of wisdom    23rd August posted by hannah

Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching for you may be laughing now, but the times, they are a-changing.

Uncle Rick    22nd August posted by hannah

We enjoyed a great meal at the local Thai last night and ate our way through the menu with with Rick, Jenny, Laurie and Alice. This is Rick greeting the Tapioca!

hairdressing    21st August posted by hannah

Our hairdressers grand-daughter was helping her today. Her customer (a plastic head), was under the dryer when we arrived and during Daniel's haircut she was vigorously shampooed. There were some fun photo opportunities but I restrained myself to one shot of my own children for fear of being branded the village odd-ball.

change    20th August posted by hannah

I've felt it a few days this week. Something that doesn't usually happen untill next month. But the air and the colours feel like autumn is close.

new friend    13th August posted by hannah

We've been to meet our neighbours new puppy, he's a gorgeous gangly-legged whippet and they've named him Zepplin. I think that we're going to be good friends.

waterproof, waterproofs everywhere..    12th August posted by hannah

You may have noticed that so far all our diary entires for August feature waterproofs! It really is that bad! On a more positive note, my parents were with us last week and we had a lovely time. One afternoon Daniel, Elliot and I had a trip on the bus to meet them for tea at Rydal and I took this on the bus.

pam    11th August posted by jonathan

Last friday I popped up Gummers How with some friends after work. It's still one of the best short walks in the Lake District with terrific views for very little effort. This is a picture of our friend Pam at the summit!

old friends    10th August posted by hannah

We've had a lovely time this afternoon catching up with Sylva, Sonia and Bob. They were passing though the lakes on their way to Edinburgh. It was great to see them. Bob is as mad as ever and has an even greater love of sticks and water than Daniel.

bring me sunshine..    1st August posted by hannah

So this is August! If you're into statistics it's one of the wettest months in the Lakes. Consequently, there are some great puddles around and we spent the afternoon jumping in them.
