Our Lovely Lis has been to stay and it was a visit with many highlights, mostly involving tea. Arguably the most expensive pot of tea in the south lakes is served in the Lakeside Hotel, but it is relatively good value if you make it last many hours. While Lis and I enjoyed the beautiful gardens, the children waded around in the lake. The tea was served by a most delightful man and came in a silver teapot with homemade shortbread. Today we went to pay homage to Anthony Gormley's figures on Crosby beach. We'd been to a wedding nearby and having been on our best (predominantly seated) behaviour all day we all enjoyed a good run on the beach before heading home. This was taken with Mab's lens.

Something sad has happened to our camera. The lens has lost the ability to focus. We hope blogging will resume shortly.

At tea-time on friday night Daniel and Jon declared that they were going camping. By 9 o'clock they were high in the hills with Paul and Alfie and this was the view.

Continuing our 'staycation', today we were at the park in Ingleton with Charlie and Mel. The pattern of our days out remains the same irrespective of the park we're in! A bit of playground action, a picnic and an ice-cream. Happy holidays.

We have harvested our carrot and I am told that it was delicious. Yes, there was only one, the remainder of the crop having been eaten by the slugs. However, the Burgess family harvest this year has been significantly better than last summer, and our tea tonight included our very own potatoes, lettuce, basil and chives.

On Monday we had a mooch around Kirkby Lonsdale with the family McLelland. We bought crepes for lunch and ate them in the churchyard. Daniel, Elliot and Bethan had to be restrained from playing 'power rangers' in front of the 'please respect the tranquility of this churchyard' sign.

The rosebay willowherb is glorious at the moment, the main roads are lined with great clouds of it. Here is some in front of the River Lune at Ruskin's view.

The RAF parked their helicopter on Endmoor village green this afternoon for Mountain Rescue training. Daniel and Bethan were both allowed onboard with Jon, then we all watched as it winched different members of the team up and down.

Daniel has learnt to ride his bike this holiday. Appropriately, he finally cracked it outside the largest bike store in the UK. The incentive to get the hang of it has been that he wants to ride to school in September, like his friend Elliot.
