Homegrown, but we can't claim any credit for them because they were planted by the lady who used to live here. Her name was Barbara Coupland and we have a lot to thank her for as the garden is bursting with old roses and sweet raspberries.

We've just returned from an imprompu weekend at Center Parcs. We threw ourselves into the spirit of it all, dumping the car on arrival and hiring mountain bikes with a trailer for the children. There is much to appeal to children, but despite the delights of wave machines, flumes, ice-creams and adventure playgrounds, our children's top activity was riding around in the bike trailer.

We're enjoying George's company this week. He, Dawn and Pip have come to stay with us. We've had a great time and introduced him to all our favourite places. Yesterday we did boats, steam trains and exotic fish at the aquarium and today we've walked his socks off! I'm writing this at 6.30pm and George, Bethan and Daniel are in bed, asleep!

Today was our biennial village festival & carnival, an event that we caught the tail end of on the first time we came to look at a house for sale a couple of years ago. That house is now our house , so it brought back some good memories. It was a fantastic event with too many people to fit in the village. Two things in particular made me smile:
- The only literature handed out was a paper notice asking everyone to recycle more
- The whole carnival, with a following of a couple of thousand onlookers, had to be routed into an industrial yard whilst waiting for the daily buses to go through, as it was too "expensive" to re-route the bus along the village bypass. As it was the buses were late and missed it all anyway!

This viewpoint doesn't make it into the guide books because it doesn't involve scaling any of Wainrights peaks but it took my breath away. I am becoming more and more fond of this beautiful landscape.
