Well Hello British Summertime! This is the weather forcast for tomorrow (courtesy of the good people at Met Check). Cold and snowy with a vicious wind making it feel like minus eight. Welcome to the lake district all ye easter holiday makers!

It's been a fun weekend with the Maycock's in residence. We've enjoyed sharing some of our favourite places with them. There has been some good scooter action, some waterfall watching and a walk to the Gruffalo wood. The small people seemed to really enjoy each other's company too, which was a bonus.

Daniel and Bethan are safely home and full of stories of their adventures in the south. They had a lovely holiday and so did we, but it's nice to have them back.

happy days18th March posted by hannah
The weather forecast for today was frightful - torrential rain and gale force winds, but we woke up to a dry morning and decided to risk going to Langdale. We had a great walk up Oxendale to Three Tarns, the view was pretty good, with all the hills visible including Scarfell and Hellvelyn. It was very windy on top so we didn't stop long, before trotting down The Band in time for tea.

spring watch16th March posted by hannah
Spring is coming 11 days earlier on average according to ecologists, but the signs are still few and far between in this neck of the woods. It's a month since we found the first snowdrop of the season and there isn't much else to report yet. Just snowdrops and a few chilly catkins.

coffee time15th March posted by hannah
We had to extend our visit to the south-east over the weekend because Bethan was poorly. After spending Sunday afternoon at the cottage hospital in Tonbridge we decided to delay the journey home. Having slung the last bag in the car on Monday morning, Daniel was spectacularly sick. By this time, I should have been in Kendal and Jon in Carlisle, but instead we spent a pleasant morning drinking coffee in the garden at Hopgarden Road.

short break11th March posted by hannah
We enjoyed a walk up behind craggy wood today. It's a favourite route but I never usually take the camera. We walked for an hour and a half and passed only one other person. It's a great priviledge to be able to escape the world for a little while so easily. If you feel an escape coming on, I recommend round the back of craggy woods!

We've had a great weekend with Sara here to play. We walked up Stickle Ghyll on Saturday with Daniel and Bethan rock-hopping all the way. We had plenty of breaks for mini-eggs and we managed to get about half-way up before we had to turn around.

snail3rd March posted by hannah
I'm coming under increasing pressure to get a pet. My resistance has been holding up well, but yesterday I weakened when Flo offered Daniel her snail. It was a touching moment and I didn't have the heart to say no. So now we have a snail in the dining room. He has a comfortable snail-type home and I can report that he is settling in and has eaten some lettuce. This is Boo showing him the garden earlier this afternoon.
