Daniel celebrated his 4th birthday yesterday, he had a shark party with all his friends. We rampaged around the bluebell woods, hunted sharks, ate cake and drank beer in the sun. The children had fun too! The weather was glorious and the afternoon ended (in the same way as last year), with naked children running under the sprinkler.

The weatherman says this summer will be a scorcher and if the last few days are anything to go by, he will be right. This is Beth enjoying the sprinkler yesterday afternoon.

We've enjoyed a warm, sunny bank holiday weekend. Today we went down to Millerbeck for a ride on the trains and a picnic. This is Daniel and Holly on the train.

After 6 months of living with concrete underfoot we are the very proud owners of a new floor. It seems a shame to cover it train track layouts and biscuit crumbs but that is what it's for! Now comes a good challenge because we have 8 hours to get the furniture back in before my parents arrive. Otherwise, they'll be sharing the spare room with the contents of the lounge.

Daniel had his face painted yesterday at the post marathon party. He became Spiderman for the afternoon and was most put out at bedtime that he had to have his face washed.

Windermere 10 Marathons in 10 days17th May posted by hannah
Today was the final day of the Windermere challenge, 10 marathons in 10 days. We went to the finish line to cheer in our friend and neighbour Adam Thwaites - who's average time was a remarkable 3 hours and 54 minutes over the 10 marathons. Here he is approaching the end. I'm sure it was a welcome sight.

We made it up the hill yesterday evening for a quick breath of air and a look at the view. This is normally a solitary tramp for my waistline and I at the end of the day but today, I tramped with my brother. Deep joy.

Matt and Catherine blew in for the weekend, exchanging the heat and humidity of the equator for the cool damp clag of the english lakes. We had a very happy time catching up over a top brunch at Wilfs. In the afternoon Daniel took them to inspect the bluebells.

Jon had a day in town last week. It being one of the largest capital cities in the world we weren't that hopeful of him being particularly close to Matt who was also in London. As it turned out, Jon was in Admiralty Arch and Matt was next door (far left of the picture)! Multiple coffee breaks ensued.
