We welcomed the new year in with a banquet at Ian and Kara's. We were a party of 8 and we made a course each so it was quite a feast. We just managed to finish the food by midnight!

We've loved Bethan a lot this week whilst she's not been very well, it's great to see her recovering. She's wonderful.

hot chocolate            saturday 29th december posted by Jonathan

It hasn't stopped raining hard here for what seems like an age. The beck is higher than we've ever seen it, the main roads closing .......... so there was little to do with small people other than educate them in the ways of good hot chocolate. Today Daniel and Elliot seemed happy with this being their lot.

Grandpa has been in charge of the children this afternoon while everyone else was playing furniture moving. He sat through a commendable number of Balamory stories.

"It was a turkey! He never could have stood upon his legs, that bird. He would have snapped 'em off short in a minute, like sticks of sealing wax." Words by Dickens. Lunch by Burgess.

christmas crib            monday 24th december posted by Hannah

Our local crib service made a fitting start to our first Christmas in the north. It took some effort to find out the time of the service as absolutely nothing was mentioned about it on any of the notice boards. The church was packed though so everybody must just know that it's 5 o'clock on Christmas Eve!

It is bitterly cold here. We are wearing everything we own and burning through mountains of coal but it is very beautiful.

'it's not baby Jesus' party, it's Daniel's party'            friday 21st december posted by Hannah

Tonight Daniel went to the Christmas Extraveganza in the village hall. This involved staying up late, eating sugar and announcing to anyone who would listen that it was his birthday party. As you can see, he was extremely pleased with the whole event.

haus der bill in berlin                                              wednesday 5th december posted by Hannah

Berlin was terrific! We ate waffles in Alexanderplatz, met Santa Claus, listened to the Berlin Philharmonic, checked out the Christmas markets, the holocaust memorial, and the KaDeWe. We even saw Angela Merkel outside the Chancellor's office! Matt's photo's are much better than mine and can be found at neveknowles.typepad.com
