winter skills training28thFebruary posted by hannah

The weather turned out to be a little too wintry even for the Mountain Rescue this weekend. It's not often that the MR bow out due to bad weather but with all routes north being closed due to heavy snowfall, even they were put off. On Thursday alone over a metre of snow fell in Cairngorm! Luckily, Jon and his fellow team member Paul had made the journey early, getting up to Scotland on Tuesday night. With the training off, they broke out their ski's!

signs of spring22nd February posted by hannah

I'm trying not to get too excited because it's still only february, but there are some buds in the garden, it's no longer dark when we get up and the snowdrops are out.

We've spent the afternoon in the woods with some of Daniel's friends from school. It's been another gorgeous day and we made a fire and toasted crumpets. It's still pretty chilly in theses parts and my face has got that 'been outside in the cold' feeling.

worn out17th February posted by hannah

Four nights of late night talking, giggling, and getting in and out of bed have taken their toll. This photo may look like story-time at the end of a long day but it was taken after breakfast! We've had a terrific time with James and Jenny but home time is fast approaching. I think it will be a quiet journey!

james and jenny16th February posted by hannah

James and Jenny have been here for half-term and much fun has been had by all. We've drunk strawberry smoothies, dunked marshmallows in chocolate sauce, been to visit the real Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang and the Batmobile at the 'Cars of the stars' museum in Keswick. But one of the best moments of glee which will stay with me for a long time, was Bethan and James' reaction to Jon dropping his keys down the drain.

happy birthday Jon boy15th February posted by hannah

Jon celebrated his birthday today with a late night scramble with Mab up Red Screes. They parked at the Kirkstone Pass inn and were at the top in 40 minutes. There's life in the old dogs yet!

We've been drinking hot chocolate in Chesters this afternoon and we had hearts in our cups.

high pressure11th February posted by hannah

We are enjoying a lovely ridge of high pressure at the moment which is blessing us with crisp, sunny days. February is often one of the nicest months in the lakes. There is still plenty of snow to be found on the fells but it's mostly melted now at our level.

bike ride6th February posted by hannah

Today we've been out on our bikes with the Crosby's. We had a great ride out to Bowston along the back lanes. We also enjoyed the first picnic lunch of the year, which is early even by our standards but was considerably cheaper than going to the pub!
