summiting                              tuesday 30th january posted by jonathan

Only once before in the alps have I had people take my photo whilst on a mission to or from a summit, but when I took Daniel in his pushchair to the top of Reston Scar it happened again. Jack who turned out to be a local, was so surprised by our attempt (having not seen the like in 20 + years) that he insisted on taking a photo of us halfway up.

The truth is that it is fairly easy going with a ATV type buggy, a bit of hard work and frozen ground. Daniel seemed to enjoy himself, but the wind on top was too strong to walk easily and it was soon time to go down (with the help of the vented disc brakes of course ;-)

We'd recommend it as a lovely viewpoint.

Hooray, hooray! We have a door on the bathroom!

the clean-up                              saturday 27th january posted by hannnah

This week we have been the gratetful beneficiaries of Operation Burgi. Peter and Yvonne arrived last Saturday with a car-load of kit to help us reclaim the house. Our builders will not be back here for at least three weeks, so we are enjoying a breathing space in which to re-assess the budget and re-discover the upstairs.

getting your money's worth                              sunday 14th january posted by hannnah

Yesterday, Jon and Daniel went shopping (on their own), for a new coat for Daniel. This was Daniel's first experience of a proper clothes shop, his wardrobe to date having been generously sponsored by hand-me-downs and Grandmas. I think that Jonathan was quite surprised at the cost of new coats and keen to get his money's worth this is the one they came home with. Looks reasonable doesn't it? Click here.

loo with a view                              saturday 13th january posted by hannnah

It's a good job that we don't have a lodger because our loo is a little public at the moment. Having said that, you do get a great view of the rest of the house but it is quite draughty!

funny face                             friday 12th january posted by hannnah

Downloading some photos today from camera to computer I discovered this funny little shot of Daniel. I think that he must have taken it himself! Jon didn't take it and I certainly didn't which leaves the boy himself, therefore it deserves a place on the blog as his first self portrait.

ceiling                             thursday 11th january posted by hannnah

We have ceiling! The building work is progressing really well. We are fortunate to have the assistance of two terrific builders and they're working extremely hard to get us back upstairs! The mess is a bit daunting at times, but the worst of it should be over by the weekend - then the clean-up operation can start in earnest. This is the new ceiling going up in our bedroom.

cake                              wednesday 10th january posted by hannnah

Luca and Nico came to play and eat cake with us on Monday. All three had a lovely time and seemed to play 'together' for the first time, rather than playing adjacent to each other which is what they've done up to now.

improvising                               sunday 7th january posted by hannnah

I can't find anything in this house anymore! All our things were packed up over 4 weeks ago prior to the arrival of the builders and now I can't remember where anything is. Today, this meant that Daniel had to wear a Lakeland plastic bag instead of a raincoat but he didn't mind!

daniel and samuel                               saturday 6th january posted by hannnah

On the way back up north after Christmas we stopped for lunch at the Allen's house. Claudia took this lovely picture of Samuel and Daniel.

snow on the hills                                 friday 5th january posted by hannnah

There is a dusting of snow on the high fells, a real sign that winter is coming after an unseasonally wet couple of months (even for Cumbria)! Today has been cold and sunny which is a welcome change. This photo was taken on top of Loughrigg, looking towards Skiddaw. You can just make out the snow if you squint.

Right Said Fred                                  wednesday 3rd january posted by hannnah

"Right Said Fred, have to take the wall down, that there wall is gonna have to go.

Took the wall down, even with it all down, we was getting nowhere and so we had a cup of tea..."

True to the next verse of the song if you know it, today we have removed the ceilings too. This photo was taken from Daniel's room, looking into our bedroom and beyond (left) to the landing. Do come and stay!

happy new year!                                                   monday 1st january posted by hannnah

I hope that you've enjoyed the best of the festive season. We've eaten all the pies (mostly mince), driven up and down the M6 a few times, been thoroughly spoilt by the grandparents (mostly Daniel), lost 7 walls in our new house and gained 4. Sung carols in Chelmsford, stuffed teddy bears in Kent, feasted in Milton Keynes, Colne Engaine, Ayside, Tonbridge, Kendal and Fell Foot Park. It's been a gorgeous festive season of good food, family time, friends and fun and we're looking forward to all that 2007 will bring.
