one job down                                                                friday 24th posted by Jonathan

Much as I like our new village below, I hope that the pace with which we can make good our house increases a bit else Hannah & I will go mad. It's taken 4 days of effort to replace a toilet seat! Not a good start.

I do think it is going to be nice here, although it's rained every day for the first 2 weeks we've been here and we'd rather like a sunny day to prove that it can be bright & clear too.

We had pretty good, if cold weather at the start of yesterday's part of the walk and still had warm tea from breakfast in our mugs when we met the first people on top.

This fence line guided us down from Harter Fell and home.

On top of Kentmere

kentmere to home                                                       sunday 19th posted by Jonathan

Mark & I had the opportunity to go out into the hills for a 2-day walk this weekend. It is a rare privilege to get out together and go camping on our own, but it was even better to be able to do a circular backpack to our new(but very old) back door. We started 4 miles up the road and walked a 15 mile route home. Basically the Kentmere horseshoe with a little bit added .

We walked 8 of those miles in snow, we went up to 2,600 feet and we camped the night just north of Nan Bield at about 2,000ft. It was cold, but lovely to wake to a fresh layer of snow that had fallen overnight. Below is a picture from our campsite just before we left in the morning. Here are a couple of other photos to give you a flavour of what felt like a fantastic weekend.

piano                      saturday 18th posted by Hannah

Today my piano from home was delivered by the very nice people at CHR Transport. We've played together for the last 22 years and it's terrific to be under the same roof again.

the house that Jon and Hannah bought                           friday 17th posted by Hannah

These are some pictures of our new house - it needs a bit of work as you will see but will make us a lovely home when it's all done. More photos here.

off-line                            tuesday 16th posted by Hannah

I am bereft without broadband! We've moved and are safely installed in our new home but our telephone and broadband have yet to work successfully let alone together. This blog will continue to be off-line for a little while longer, but we hope to be back on track soon.

We've had a very busy day today! Jon climbed Helvellyn with Mark and Ivor (before breakfast)! And we bought a house this afternoon! Hooray.

autumn                              wednesday 1st posted by Hannah

Everything is packed away for winter down at Fell Foot. The gift shop and tea-room have been packed up and closed until the spring and the park is very tranquil without it's visitors. Just us and the ducks left to enjoy the autumn colours.
