sunset over conistonJanuary 16th posted by Hannah

It looks as though the weather is about to break but we've enjoyed a glorious week. This was the sunset over Coniston on sunday evening. We had to keep stopping the car to take pictures so it was quite a slow journey home. We stopped at Windermere too because by then the sky was pink and purple but we'll save those pictures for another day!

tarn howsJanuary 15th posted by Hannah

We've spent the weekend celebrating our friend Ian's birthday. The initial plan was to get together for a meal on Saturday night but the celebrations rolled on into Sunday after we'd all remembered how much we like each other. We enjoyed a very frosty walk around Tarn Hows and our toes quietly froze into solid lumps of ice while Daniel, Holly, Calum and Bethan tracked some hoof prints for a very long way until eventually, we found a cow. More pictures here.

Nine days into the new year and we have briefly popped out of our familiar blanket of cloud and into some beautiful sunshine. Having finally seen off the sickness bugs and successfully packed both children off to school, this morning I had only myself to please so I went out to play in Kentmere. I didn't have the camera with me so this picture is from the week before Christmas. The view today was the same, minus the snow and it felt fantastic to be out and about again.

tippitJanuary 7th posted by Hannah

We managed to squeeze in a game of tippit before heading home which the boys won as you can see! The return journey was not one of our best. The only record broken was the number of satsumas eaten in a traffic jam (15), which became less of a triumph as the night wore on and Daniel started vomitting. Four days on, it turns out that he has the dreaded Norovirus and has yet to go back to school. So far, the New Year has mostly consisted of boiling the bedding and liberally dousing everything in bleach.

two princessesJanuary 4th posted by Hannah

We saw the new year in, in Tonbridge with the Burgi. The younger generation played princesses and lego and we enjoyed trips out to the swimming pool and donkey rides at Judd Wood Farm. It was a holiday with many great moments including a second Christmas lunch and lovely presents to unwrap but Daniel's highlight (by quite some margin), was me locking myself in the bathroom! In my defense, I locked the door in exactly the same way that I have done for the last 10 years at least, but the lock jammed and Peter and Jon had to virtually destroy the door to get me out, a process which delighted Daniel. I was freed successfully but the door has had it. Daniel spent the rest of the evening hugging me (not out of relief that I was safely returned to him), but in grateful thanks for the best nights entertainment he'd had in a long time; "Thank-you Mummy for getting locked in the bathroom, THAT WAS BRILLIANT!"
