bees and Grandmas March 31st posted by Hannah

We've been enjoying spotting bees in the garden for the first time this year. On a different note, I have wanted to blog for a while that Bethan has inherited the Burgess "confident to talk to anyone at anytime" gene. This is turning out to be a delightful inheritance and as she makes her way around the village she engages everybody (and all the dogs) in conversation. This morning she seemed to be especially greeting ladies of a certain age with "Hello, I'm Bethan". Which was getting some warm responses. She then went on to address the entire queue in the Spar saying loudly: "I just love Grandmas, they're my favourite thing in the whole wide world."

A&E 'bagging' March 30th posted by Hannah

You may have heard of 'Munro bagging', a popular outdoor pursuit in Scotland, where mountaineers aim to climb all of Scotland's Munros (mountains over 3000ft). Well, we have stumbled across a new pastime called 'A&E bagging'. Between us and the Mclelland family we have bagged five A&E's in the last three weeks. The Mclellands have bagged Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow. We have bagged Stirling and Lancaster and travelled by ambulance! So far, I wouldn't describe it as the best game we've ever played and we're thinking of calling it a draw as nobody really wants to win.

the year of the rhubarb March 23rd posted by Hannah

Having put in new crowns last winter, we are looking forward to this being the year of the rhubarb. We haven't tasted any yet because you can't pull them in the first year as it weakens the plant but we're hopeful of a crop this season. We had some rhubarb yoghurt recently which both Dan and Boo really liked, so the signs are good that rhubarb crumble will be a winner.
