Jon has taken a couple of days off work to catch-up with Sarah Batt and play in the hills. They disappeared into the night late yesterday evening with a car full of kit and a waterproof map. I was briefed before they left as to where they were intending to camp and walk (with a flick of her wrist, Sarah indicated a vast area of the map that looked to the untrained eye like it included most of the lake district)! The weather forecast is pretty dreadful, rain and strong winds being the headline (between 50 and 100 miles per hour)! But, there is just a chance of snow over the high fells. This would be the first snow of the season and a chance of playing in it, is worth the risk of being drenched! I'm hoping they'll have a fantastic day.

Daniel has been invested into the beaver scouts. He has strong scouting genes and he looked the part solomnly saying his promise (learnt with some degree of urgency ten minutes before the ceremony) and making his scouting salute to the group leader. He made me laugh afterwards when he was getting ready for bed. Showing me the scouting salute again he said; "Mummy, now I know two salutes don't I? This one is beavers and this one is swear."

bonfire nightNovember 6th posted by Hannah
We had fireworks in the garden last night with a small but perfectly formed bonfire in our barbeque (small and hot)! Mel and Cath brought the fireworks and we made the sausage butties. Half-way through the evening, we realised that the cheery blaze in the barbeque was infact, the glowing paintwork of the barbeque itself and that Daniel had constructed the fire with rather a lot of very dry wood. For a while we thought the barbeque itself might actually become the bonfire but miraculously it has survived. Daniel and his friends had a great evening playing 'Harry Potter' in the dark and shrieking spells and incantations at each other. This was actually quite effective with sparklers in their hands.
